Makuri Vlei Iron Ore Prospect

Location:      Part of the Tsumkwe Base Metals Project, Ngamiland, Namibia
Owner:         Mount Burgess Mining NL 90%, Kimberlite Resources (Pty) Ltd 10%

Prospect Location

Recent drill testing of magnetic targets in the Tsumkwe Base Metals Project area has returned encouraging iron results in magnetite mineralisation. The Makuri Vlei Iron Ore Prospect is located on the north-eastern border of Namibia adjacent to the Kihabe Base Metals Project and the Western Ngamiland Diamond Project in Botswana. The prospect is part of the Exclusive Prospecting Licence 2818, in joint venture with Kimberlite Resources (Pty) Ltd.

Exploration to Date

Exploration by the Company to date has involved twelve holes drilled into Target 1, and a further six holes drilled into Targets 2, 3 and 4 during 2011.  Ten of twelve holes drilled into Target 1 have been logged as containing significant quantities of magnetite.

In 2001, the Company drilled six holes covering a distance of 250m across the southern linear anomaly (Target 5). The three northern drill holes which covered an across strike distance of over 100m were all logged as intersecting hematite/magnetite breccia from around 22m depth to the end of the holes, the deepest being 43m. The southern three drill holes were only drilled to 20m depth.  None of these holes were analysed for Fe.

Recent assaying on holes drilled into Makuri Vlei Iron Ore Target 1 has concluded the following:

  • The iron mineral species are predominately magnetite
  • Davis Tube Recovery tests show magnetite recovered has a very marketable composition
  • Iron content of magnetite of up to 68.4% Fe
  • SiO2 content 2.5% and Al2O3 content 0.12%
  • Loss on Ignition averages minus 2.6%
  • Average phosphorous content 0.003%
  • TiO2 content averages 0.02%
  • Na2O2 averages 0.02%, KO2 not detected
  • Cu/Pb/Zn are low – around 0.01% to 0.02%
  • Sulphur content low at 0.04%
  • Particle size of magnetite grains 50-100 microns

Such material is comparable to commercially traded ores.

Further Exploration

With the confirmation of the above results and the knowledge that the southern linear magnetic high anomaly (Target 5) hosts hematite/magnetite breccia, the Company believes that this structure and the parallel structure to the north (Target 6) have the potential to host a worthwhile iron ore target.  An initial drilling programme has been designed to test these linear magnetic anomalies.
